GENERAL CONDITIONS OF CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION WORKS FOURTH EDITION (2025)

The flagship SAICE Conditions of Contract and update to GCC 2015. Encompassing both local and international best practice, GCC 2025 is endorsed by the CIDB for use on multi-disciplinary projects in the South African construction industry. The contract is gender neutral. Clauses have been reworded in simpler, more concise language, renumbered and grouped in a more logical manner. The Fourth Edition builds on the previous versions introducing sound project management principles such as early warnings, when and how the programme is updated and facilitated amicable settlement as the first step in the dispute resolution process. To avoid confusion or misunderstanding instructions can only be given in writing. Some of the unique challenges facing the industry are acknowledged as Employer’s risks.  The period for submitting a notice of claim and the detailed claim itself are now different. Time bars can be challenged. The GCC 4th Edition 2025 is to be used with the contract documentation format as prescribed by the Construction Industry Development Board in the Standard for Uniformity in Construction Procurement. Amendments to the standard GCC 2025 terms and conditions are discouraged except where specifically required due to actual site conditions or other unique circumstances.
